About the Founder, David Lanigan:
It all began when I started working in a woodworking shop in my hometown in New England, around 40 years ago. The wood shop was located down the street from my childhood home. I was taught woodworking skills the ole’ school way. The old-timers took me under their wing and showed me some valued skills. They didn't even let me use power tools for a long time; instead, I used hand drills, hammers, saws, and chisels as my daily tools. After proving myself, I was gradually introduced to power tools, and within a year, I skillfully started making cabinets. Over the years, I have perfected my craft while still striving to learn new techniques.
In my twenties, I proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. I still thrive on the leadership fundamentals of integrity, dependability, initiative, discipline, and commitment. After my service, I expanded my skills and became a successful general contractor and project manager. With over 25 years of experience, I have renovated homes, built hundreds of new homes, and managed commercial, municipal, and government projects. This extensive experience gives me a thorough understanding when working with architects, designers, contractors, and homeowners.
While working on building projects, I continued with woodworking as my passion. I returned to woodworking and cabinetry full-time and started VIEIRA Cabinetry LLC. in Beaufort, South Carolina, in 2017.
Today, I am blessed to have a wonderful, healthy family. I have a very supportive wife of over 15 years, and my three children frequently visit the VIEIRA Cabinetry Shop to learn and experience the satisfaction of building something.
About the name of the company, VIEIRA Cabinetry LLC: As a family man, I wanted our company name to reflect our family. Just as my previous construction business was named with my father's roots in mind, I thought it would be appropriate to include my mother's roots for the cabinet company. I also wanted a name that sounded like it could represent our products: beautiful, stylish, and enduring. My maternal family name is Vieira, and my grandparents were from Portugal. I also wanted a name that could somehow be connected to the coastal region where we operate. The name VIEIRA is also the name of a beautiful region on the northern coast of Portugal, and our logo represents a common scalloped seashell found in the region.
